Michigan Community Health Center Providers Among 45,000 Who Qualify for HIT Stimulus Money

According to a George Washington University report released this week, approximately 45,000 office-based physicians across the country qualify for as much as $63,750 each in federal stimulus money over six years to be used for the adoption and maintenance of health information technology (HIT) beginning in 2011, as long as they demonstrate meaningful use of HIT. (A definition of meaningful use is expected by the end of this year.)

Included are nearly all physicians who practice at Federally Qualified Health Centers if 30% of their patient base is characterized as “needy,” including those covered by Medicaid, those who receive uncompensated care, and patients who are charge income-related sliding scale fees. The report indicates that all of Michigan’s Community Health Centers qualify for the HIT incentives. Read more
