“Debunking” the Myths of the Health Care System

No matter how hard we try, we can’t seem to fix it. Our health care system has been at the heart of political debate since at least the 1910s, when the American Association for Labor Legislation organized the first national conference on “social insurance.”

This year’s election brings a new round of teeth-gnashing, and with it a fresh supply of myths to explain why things are such a mess.

To offset the spin,we asked experts in the public health community to debunk some of the more dubious claims you can expect to hear:
