To close out National Health Center Week 2009, Family Medical Center of Michigan, a Community Health Center located in Southeast Michigan, announced today a major expansion and renovation of its Temperance site beginning in the fall and extending into next year.
The plan is to construct 18,000 additional square feet and to renovate 6,700 square feed now used to serve patients. Estimated total cost of the construction project will exceed $3.75 million, with some of the cost being covered by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus funding.
“The new space is desparately needed to serve the over 21,000 patients treated at the Temperance site each year,” said Ed Larkins, Family Medical Center of Michigan’s executive director.
With the new space, Family Medical Center of Michigan will add a cutting edge dental wing, expand mental health and behavioral health services, and add medical exam rooms, meeting rooms, and office space to house organizations such as the Family Independence Agency.
According to Dave Brown, Board President of the Community Health Center, “This renovation and expansion will be the culmination of many years of hard work and will result in a state of the art ambulatory care center for citizens of Monroe County.”
During the next year, Family Medical Center of Michigan will engage in a variety of fund raising initiatives to support construction and renovation activities at the Temperance site.
