Working Toward Unified Medical Home Incentives

Health plans and insurers in Southeast Michigan are working with physicians and employers to develop a standardized financial incentive program with common measurements to reward physicians for implementing patient-centered medical home services.

The standardized approach will help doctors develop medical homes and cut down on the variations of medical home programs that health plans are developing, said Dr. Mary Beth Bolton, chief medical officer with Health Alliance Plan of Michigan and co-chair of the Michigan Primary Care Consortium.

Bolton said the group already has agreed to pay doctors incentive payments for three medical home services in 2010 and more will be added each year.
