School-Based Health Centers are in Jeopardy

Protect Michigan’s School-Based Health Centers: The Students in Our State Need Your Voice!

As the Michigan legislature and Governor Granholm attempt to balance the state’s budget in these final days before the start of fiscal year 2010 on October 1, funding for school-based/school-linked Health Centers is in jeopardy of being eliminated.

These 70 centers currently provide basic health care services for over 100,000 of our state’s most vulnerable children and adolescents. Their closure will not only leave students without a health care provider, impacting their health and readiness to learn, it will result in the loss of over $10 million in Federal Medicaid Match funds.

If you have a school-based/school-linked Health Center in your community, or you are willing to advocate on its behalf, please contact your State Senator and Representative and the following state legislators and ask them NOT to let funding for school-based/school-linked Health Centers be eliminated from the K-12 budget!

Speaker Andy Dillon – 888.737.3455
Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop – 517.373.2417

Sen.. Bill Hardiman – 866.305.2129
Rep. Terry Brown – 888.254.5284
