The implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHR) is the first important step towards achieving Meaningful Use designation. The New England Journal of Medicine has described the road to Meaningful Use of EHR as an escalator. Every Health Center has good reason to step onto the escalator as quickly as possible. After all, eligible providers can receive up to $63,750 from the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, with no payment adjustments threatened.
PCMH is much more than meaningful use but Meaningful Use can be a fundamental first step. By meeting Meaningful Use criteria your Health Center is already addressing the work of PCMH. In addition, Meaningful Use incentive dollars are available and can offset the cost of achieving PCMH designation. Also there are federally subsidized resources available in Michigan (Regional Extension Centers – M-CEITA) to help Health Centers reach Meaningful Use and avoid common pitfalls. We strongly urge our members to take advantage of the federal and state incentive programs, adopt EHR technology, and position your Health Center to take advantage of the market reforms.
MPCA and MDCH hosted a webinar on October 5, 2011, on the Medicaid EHR Incentive program. An archived version of the webinar is available for playback online at http://blip.tv/file/get/Michiganpca-MedicaidEHRIncentiveProgram650.wmv. (Requires high speed internet connection.)
