Cherry Street Health Services has expanded its Montcalm Area Health Center (MAHC) to serve thousands more medical and dental patients in the high-need area.

The Greenville-based Health Center more than doubled its space by moving to a larger facility, increasing medical exam rooms and dental operatories, as well as the number of staff available to provide care. MAHC now serves about 3,635 medical patients and 3,262 dental patients who are residents of Kent, Montcalm, Ionia, and Gratiot counties.

“Cherry Street Health Services is excited that this new location and facility provide the expanded space for increased access to primary care, dental care, and behavioral health care for Montcalm County Area communities,” said Mike Reagan, chief external relations officer, Cherry Street Health Services.

Expanding the Health Center has also reduced patient visit wait time by a number of weeks. MAHC had reached capacity at its old site, resulting in longer wait times for new patients to be scheduled for appointments. The new site opened to patients on October 15.

Improving access to care is one of the top five issues to be addressed in Montcalm County according to the 2011 Community Health Needs Assessment.
