National Health Center Week events come in all shapes and sizes. Some are large one-time events that engage the entire community. Others are smaller events that recognize a Health Center’s staff. Some unite leadership from partnering community organizations to highlight a particular issue impacting Health Centers and their patients. Yet others, like the events and activities that Alcona Health Center is hosting this year, are part of a week-long and beyond celebration.
We blogged last week about Alcona Health Centers 6th annual Project Connect that took place on August 6 to kick off its observance of #NHCW2013 and connect Alcona County residents in need with free supplies and services. Beginning today and continuing throughout the week, Alcona’s network of Health Centers spread throughout Alcona, Iosco, Emmet, and Alpena Counties are celebrating National Health Center Week in many different ways.
Monday’s festivities include handing out surprise gifts, snacks and bottled water to patients at Alpena Services. The Lincoln Wildcat School Clinic is hosting a Fitness for Kids program and providing popcorn. It’s Dental Day at Emmet Clinic to increase awareness about the importance of dental care and its impact on overall health. Harrisville Services’ staff are handing out granola bars and bottled water to patients and visitors. A local dairy farm family is sharing information with patients at Lincoln Services about the importance of calcium for strong bones and teeth and handing out cartons of milk. At Oscoda Services you’ll find kids getting their faces painted, enjoying nutritious snacks, and learning about healthy eating. Ossineke Services is holding a drawing for two back pack give aways, and gas cards will be given to patients who schedule preventive visits during the week. The dental departments at each of Alcona’s Health Centers are joining in the fun by holding drawings for prizes, too, and the pharmacy staff is giving out magnets.
We can’t wait to see what takes place at Alcona Health Center sites during the rest of National Health Center Week 2013! Check the MPCA Facebook page for updates and pictures throughout the week of their festivities, as well as the celebrations of other Michigan Health Centers. With nearly 50 observances planned throughout Michigan, there’s lots going on!
