Family Medical Center of Michigan broke ground last week for a new ambulatory medical/dental facility in Adrian, Michigan, that is desperately needed in Lenawee County to serve the thousands of residents who lack access to medical and dental services. It will enable the Michigan Health Center to provide medical and dental services in one facility for Adrian residents, and it will increase its capacity to provide integrated primary and behavioral health care services in collaboration with the Lenawee County Mental Health Authority.
“Currently services are being provided in three rental properties in Adrian and this new facility will combine care and resources into one new Health Center,” said Ed Larkins, CEO of Family Medical Center of Michigan.
With the new space spanning 19,000 square feet, Family Medical Center of Michigan will have a cutting edge dental wing, expanded mental health and behavioral services, 17 medical exam rooms, meeting rooms, and office space to house organizations like the Department of Human Services and Lenawee County Mental Health Authority.
The new facility is expected to open in late 2014 and enable Family Medical Center to serve 20,000 patients a year at this site alone, as well as create new jobs in Lenawee County. The Health Center also operates sites in Temperance, Carleton, and Monroe, Michigan.
“This new facility in Adrian will be the culmination of many years of hard work and will result in a state-of-the-art ambulatory care center for citizens of Lenawee County,” said Dave Brown, Board President, Family Medical Center of Michigan.
The majority of the funding for the construction project comes from a
$5 million U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Building Capacity Grant. During the next year, Family Medical Center will engage in a variety of fundraising efforts to fully fund the project.
