Much like a family expands and outgrows its home, Advantage Health Centers (AHC)—a Michigan Health Center providing much-needed primary and preventive care to residents of the greater Detroit community—is relocating Advantage Family Health Center to address the ever-increasing need for quality, affordable health care.
On November 11, 2013, AHC staff and board members, area leaders, consumers, donors, and other supporters will cut the ribbon at the new Health Center facility at 4669 East Eight Mile Road in Warren. This is AHC’s first site outside of Detroit’s city limits.
“We believe in building stronger, healthier communities. Advantage Health Centers’ role in every community and neighborhood that we serve is to work toward this important goal, as do our partners who are vital to our success,” said Joe Ferguson, Executive Director, Advantage Health Centers.
The volume of patients that Advantage Health Centers serves has jumped significantly over the past six years. In 2007, AHC health care professionals cared for 7,778 adults, and that number is expected to reach 13,100 by the end of this year. Perhaps more telling is the increase in the number of pediatric patients the Health Center serves—598 in 2007 and a projected 12,000 children by the end of 2013.
AHC has been serving the metro Detroit area since 1986, and first began to provide health care for local residents experiencing homelessness. At a time when veterans currently account for 25% of the homeless in America, the work of AHC is now magnified.
“Our ribbon cutting ceremony on November 11, Veteran’s Day, is especially important given our original mission of providing health care for the homeless,” said Ferguson. “Our partnership and collaboration with supporters at all levels of government—local, county, state, and federal—becomes all the more urgent.”
Michigan Primary Care Association looks forward to celebrating the ribbon cutting of this new facility that is one of over 220 Health Center delivery sites in Michigan. Together, 36 Michigan Health Center organizations operate these sites that are health care homes for over 600,000 state residents. To find a local health center near you, visit www.mpca.net.
