Cherry Street Health Services, a Federally Qualified Health Center that operates a large network of Health Center sites in West Michigan, is celebrating 25 years of providing access to health, hope, and opportunity with A Silver Cherry Street Celebration on Friday, November 8. The event will be held at the Cathedral Square Center (360 Division Ave. S) in Grand Rapids, and includes a sparkling reception, seated dinner, and presentation honoring Phil McCorkle, the recently retired former President and CEO of Mercy Health-Saint Mary’s.
Cherry Street Health Services has experienced significant growth since it opened the doors of its first Health Center at 550 Cherry Street SE in downtown Grand Rapids back in 1988. Through the years, Cherry Street has expanded from one site to a network of more than 20 sites in Kent, Ottawa, Ionia, and Montcalm Counties. Each Health Center site is a source of high-quality, affordable primary and preventive health care, regardless of clients’ insurance status or household income.
Throughout its history, Cherry Street has continually expanded its health care services. Today clients have access to family medicine, adult internal medicine, women’s health and OB-GYN services, pediatric care, comprehensive dental and vision care, substance abuse treatment and counseling, psychiatric care, health promotion services, and case management services. Cherry Street also operates a renowned integrated primary and behavioral care clinic, several School-based Health Centers, and a 340B pharmacy.
This growth is an excellent example of the proven track record and value that Michigan Health Centers bring to their communities. As Cherry Street has opened new sites to meet the needs of a constantly increasing patient population, the organization has also remained committed to its humble beginnings by renovating and updating facilities and incorporating 21st century technology. In fact, Cherry Street has grown at such a fast rate that it had to add a new program or site every one to two years just to meet the needs of the clients and communities it serves.
More than merely adding services, programs, and locations, Cherry Street has also dedicated significant efforts to earning national and state recognition for delivering high-quality care. It most recently earned designation as a Patient-Centered Medical Home by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
What’s more, Cherry Street is one of the first Michigan Health Centers to open a fully-integrated primary and behavioral health care practice. The Durham Clinic is nationally recognized as a model for integrating care to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.
Cherry Street Health Services’ 25th anniversary is a celebration of its longstanding tradition of providing high-quality, affordable health care, as well as its commitment to finding creative solutions that have improved the quality of life for thousands of patients throughout the years. Please join us in congratulating Cherry Street for this historic accomplishment. We look forward to its accomplishments during another 25 years of services and growth.
